ITINERARY/SCHEDULE

HCMC - Ben Tre (110km) 2h30m

Depart from your hotel on a 2 hours’ drive to Ben Tre, located in the Mekong River Delta and known in Vietnam as the Kingdom of Coconut. Upon arrival, visit a local industry where the locals make an array of products from coconut, learn here about the many benefits of this fruit and its importance for the regional economy. Afterwards, embark on a traditional wooden boat and sail along Binh Chanh river. A short stop at an activated charcoal factory will be made before continuing to Tam Hiep island.

Up next, you will board a sampan (traditional rowing boat) to traverse a network of canals that divides a patch of river islands. The tranquil route leads to the local house, where you will meet a veteran who participated in the fight against Cambodia's infamous Khmer Rouge regime. Have a chat with your host while tasting some tropical fruits. Later, we will have some bicycles ready to ride through the the small island village and visit a creeper plant farm, which produce is used in the confection of a local herbal jelly. A home-cooked lunch will be served in a local home. After lunch, cruise back to the mainland and transfer to the largest city and capital of the Mekong Delta: Can Tho. Overnight in Can Tho.

Regional travel (depends on multiple factors)

In the early morning, embark on a local boat trip to the famous Cai Rang floating market, where dozens of boats laden with fruits, vegetables and fish from all over the Delta jostle to sell their goods. Return to the mainland and pay a visit to Binh Thuy Ancient House, originally conceived as a place to worship their ancestors, the home was built by two generations of the Duong family, and finally finished in 1911. It is also an outstanding example of the blend of Western and Oriental architectural elements and served as backdrop for the movie “The Lover”, based on the book of the same name.

In the afternoon, walk around the local market, followed by a visit to the Tinh Do Cu Si pagoda and the Khmer pagoda of Munirang Say. The rest of the day will be free to enjoy at leisure. Overnight in Can Tho.

Can Tho - Chau Doc (2:45hrs) 120km

After breakfast, we begin our way to Chau Doc (about 3hrs). Located on the border with Cambodia, Chau Doc enjoys a unique cultural mix between the Vietnamese, Cham and Khmer ethnic groups. Upon arrival. Check-in at the hotel and have lunch (at your own expense).

In the afternoon, transfer to the outskirts of Chau Doc for a visit to the Tra Su Nature Reserve, home to many unique water birds and colonies of bats. The park is best explored by motor boat and rowing sampan that glide through spectacular living carpets of water plants. Return to the city and make a stop at a local house to learn about how locals make juice, sugar and more from the local variety of palm. Transfer back to the hotel in the early evening. Overnight in Chau Doc.

Chau Doc - HCMC (5:40hrs) 210km

After breakfast, board the local ferry to cross the Chau Doc River (a tributary of the Mekong) for a tour of Chau Doc city. The route includes a visit to a floating fish farm and a Muslim Cham village. The modern Cham people are the descendants of the powerful Cham Pa Kingdom, an empire that stretched from Hue to the south of Vietnam from the 7th to 18th centuries.

Walk around the village to see the local mosque, observe the divergence of Cham-style stilt homes as well as their modest colorful style of dress. Return to Chau Doc centre, check out and drive back to Saigon (or transfer to the local pier for the extension in Cambodia). Estimated arriving Saigon in the evening.
