ITINERARY/SCHEDULE

Phnom Penh - Battambang 290km

Leaving the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh, we head up north to Battambang which is a 5 hour drive. Continuing a visit to Oudong which was once the capital city of Cambodia between the 17th-19th Century. After that, we will walk up a staircase of temples and Buddhist relics, enjoy a picnic lunch and head off again. Learn about the community, its surroundings and local villages en route. Leave back to Battambang, check-in your hotel in the afternoon.

Overnight in Battambang.

In the morning, you will set out to take the proclaimed Bamboo train. Which is an old fashioned railway used to transport goods; locals use it frequently for their daily travel.

Arriving at our destination, take another ride to the well preserved 11th Century Prasat Phnom Banan, which is a 350 stairwell and location, that has a view of the surrounding countryside, dotted with small villages and endless rice paddies. Only a short ride away, head to the village of Ksach Puoy which banks the Sangker River. Where most of the stilted Khmer-style houses are located. Tasty treats and refreshments are easily obtained here, like oranges, juicy pineapples and many other fresh produced fruits of the region. Wine is also around the corner at Cambodia’s first vineyard, which is still in Ksach Puoy. Head back to Battambang center.

When finishing lunch, we will drive to the striking hilltop of Phnom Sampeau, which is stunning to witness with its multiple pagodas, numerous caves and sights of Cambodia’s turbulent history.

On the other side of the mountain, sit down and spectate thousands of bats leaving the caves as dusk falls.

Lastly, head back to town to rest for the next day.
